T H E   P A D A N G ,   1 9 6 0 ' S The Padang is the great, green field that fronts Singapore's old City Hall. It is used both as a parade field and as a cricket field. (The Singapore Cricket Club is headquartered there.) This postcard image looks west, across the Padang, toward the Singapore River. At lower left is the Nichol Bridge; at center left is Elizabeth Walk. Presently, the whole water area on the left has now been reclaimed from the sea and turned into a large hotel-shopping district, including Singapore's modern convention center, Suntec City.
